Biography:

Lin Qiu is Associate Professor in Psychology at Nanyang Technological University. He received his Ph.D. from Northwestern University. His research interests include Social Psychology, Human-computer Interaction, and Computational Social Science. His work has appeared in top-tier journals including Psychological Science, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Journal of Research in Personality, and Computers in Human Behavior. He is Associate Editor of Journal of Computational Social Science.

Abstract:

Digital technologies such as online social networking and mobile phones have become an inseparable part of our lives. They greatly change our behavior, and meanwhile provide unprecedented opportunities to conduct studies on a very large scale. This talk will present how Big Data and AI have been applied in social science to generate new insights about human society, and lessons learned from a decade of computational social science research.
